Organic Food Industry In Canada
On December 21, 2006, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) published the Canadian Organic Products Regulations, Canada’s national organic standards. Publishing these national regulations represented a big step for the Canadian organic industry because it codified the national standards as law. Historically, organic certification in Canada has been voluntary and fragmented from province to province.
The national regulations will be regulated by the CHFA effective December, 2008 and products that in complaince with the Canadian organic standards will be able to have the CANADA ORGANIC/BIOLOGIQUE logo shown below on their packaging.
For more information on Organic Food Production in Canada and the new National Organic Standards, please visit the ORGANIC TRADE ASSOCIATION website at http://www.ota.com/standards/canadian.html
Mclean Organic Foods is dedicated to meeting the regulations outlined by the new Canadian Organic Standards. Our goal is to obtain ORGANIC CERTIFIATION on or before December, 2008. In the meantime, please note that Mclean products do not make any claims that they are Certified.
