At Mclean, we embrace food with gratitude.

In a world with many unhealthy food choices, MCLEAN strives to offer shoppers a selection of preservative free foods that taste great.

To do this successfully, we stick to our Mission  to develop, market and sell Clean & Lean products that support natural, humane and sustainable farming. All recipes are based on the principle of using only lean cuts of meat, sea salt and a touch of spice. Where possible we avoid food allergens in hopes that people with food sensitivities can also enjoy our products.

Our goal is to sell food that everyone can enjoy and feel good about. And one day, we hope that all products we make are 100% certified organic.

Here is our story:
In the mid-1990's, Garth Mclean (Founder and President of Mclean Meats Inc.) left the conventional meat industry to explore a career in the Natural Food Industry.  It was during this transition that Garth realized that nitrite-free deli meat products were not available in Canada.

In 1998, Garth began the research and development of a select line of nitrite-free deli meats. That same year, he launched the ‘Natural Farms’ deli meat line at Capers Community Markets’ (now Wholefoods Markets) in Vancouver, BC. Over the course of the next four years, Garth grew the line from 3 to over 8 deli items.

With the goal to expand the business, Garth joined forces with Michelle Neilson (Vice President, Director of Business Development) in 2003. They were also joined by their friends Deanna Bell and Gilbert Poirier. Working hands-on at all levels from production to marketing and distribution, this team of friends built the foundation from which the company would grow. Then in 2004, they agreed to re-brand the company ‘Mclean Meats Inc,’ using the word ‘clean’ in Garth’s last name as the inspiration to drive the company’s new Mission Statement.

In 2005, Mclean Meats expanded their product line to over 15 items and increased distribution throughout British Columbia.

In 2006, Mclean Meats added MCLEAN Organic Foods to their family of brands and began the process of obtaining organic certification under Canada’s national organic standards program.

Then, with the goal to expand sales across Canada, in 2008 Garth and Michelle moved production of select items to a Canadian federally inspected plant in Alberta. While Garth and Michelle focused on growing the business in Eastern Canada, Garth’s eldest son, Justin Mclean transitioned from production to coordinating Western Canadian sales.

In 2009, Mclean received Organic certification for select products and by early 2010, Mclean had established sales in Canada from coast to coast. In this same year, Mclean added Woodstown Farms select line of preservative free deli meats to their family of brands.

Today, Mclean Meats Inc remains a family operated company with Garth Mclean and son Justin overseeing Canadian National Sales. Also new to the Mclean team is Paul Hamel, acting as the Ontario Sales Manager and Danny Lamelin who is overseeing sales for the Quebec and Maritimes region.

Going into 2012, the MCLEAN Meats family of brands includes MCLEAN Organic Foods, MCLEAN Clean & Lean Foods, Woodstown Farms, Citterio, and Life Choices.
